Podcasting 101

Friday Aug 1, 2008

Podcasting is a term used to describe syndicating broadcasts through mediums such as the iPod and computer software. These broadcasts can be subscribed to and have a number of different uses, including marketing.

What is Podcasting?
Podcasting comes from the words “iPod” and “broadcast” as it was initially created to distribute broadcasts through the Apple iPod. Today RSS and Atom are used to distribute podcasts through a number of different podcatching clients such as iTunes, Winamp and a number of others.

How Does Podcasting Benefit Your Marketing Strategy

Podcasting provides another means by which you can get your marketing message across to potential clients. A number of websites offer podcasts from independent creators and this means that if you can create a podcast for your company then you can distribute it through these websites and get some traffic from them that you would otherwise not be able to get.

What to Consider When Creating a Podcast
The first thing to realize is that podcasts can be subscribed to and as such you want to create an interesting and informative presentation and not just a strong sales speech. You should also look at how you can create an ongoing series of speeches to send to potential clients regularly. You want to get as many clients through this as possible and then you want them to stay subscribed so that they are constantly reminded about your website and business and eventually purchase your goods or services.

How to Create your Own Podcast – a Basic Outline
In order to make use of podcasting as a marketing medium you are going to need to create a podcast. This means that for starters you will need to create an mp3 file with a recording of what you are presenting. Once you have done this you will need to upload it either to your website or to another distributor of podcasts so that your intended audience can receive it.

Podcasting is becoming a useful and popular way to market your business. In order to do so you need to have some valuable and interesting information to share and record this into a series of mp3 files that can then be distributed using RSS or Atom.
